The NYSHEX Freight Index for Asia–North Europe fell 3.24% over the week to 3,356.23, as of October 9 data. The Pacific is splitting by coast: Asia–US West Coast rates fell 1.98% to 7,407.75, while Asia–US East Coast rates rose 1.40% to 9,831.24.
The NYSHEX Freight Index (NYFI) for Asia–North Europe fell 3.24% over the week, to 3,356.23, according to the October 9 release. The drop extends a multi-week trend: demand on the lane is soft, and part of the fleet is returning to the Suez Canal, freeing up capacity that used to be absorbed by the Cape of Good Hope detour.
The Pacific trades are splitting by coast. Asia–US West Coast rates fell 1.98% to 7,407.75, while Asia–US East Coast rates rose 1.40% to 9,831.24. The gap between the two coasts has been widening for several weeks running.
On the European lane, carriers are trying to halt the slide with higher FAK rates from the second half of October, but forwarders report weak demand and discounting from some carriers — whether the increases will hold remains unclear.
